Are you reading these publications?
Regular reading of Response and New World Outlook magazines is an important part of the UMW Reading Program Plans.
- Response is the official magazine of United Methodist Women. It tells the mission story of UMW and stirs readers to solidarity and action with women, youth and children of the world. The magazine carries a message of faith and hope, and a call to be a part of a more peaceful, just world, where all people are children of God.
- New World Outlook is the Mission magazine of the United Methodist Church, a publication of the General Board of Global Ministries. This magazine connects local churches to mission work and suggests avenues for becoming involved in outreach, support, and even hands-on help.
Plan I: Regular reading of Response magazine.
Plan II, III, IV: Regular reading of Response and New World Outlook magazines.
You can subscribe to these magazines if you wish to get your own copies in the mail. However, that isn't necessary to complete this part of your Reading Plan. A limited number of articles from the current issues of each magazine can be accessed at their websites. These magazines are also available in the church library.

Reading Program catalog moved to LibraryThing
A new cataloging site for Reading Program books has been launched at LibraryThing. It works better to organize the lists in groupings that can be sorted and searched easier than the Google Books library. It is a public site and can be viewed without you joining.
Books lists are entered into collections, including each of the UMW Reading Program categories. The books we have in our church library are in the "Your library" collection. "All collections" is the entire list of books that qualify for the current Reading Program Plans.
LibraryThing gives library-quality data for each book. Google Books previews can be accessed from the individual book pages if available.
A pull down menu opens the list of collections.
You can show books as a list or just the covers.
Tapping on column headings will sort under that heading. Tap again and the order will reverse. Other options for lists and pages are available by clicking many of the features on the site. You won't be making permanent changes, so go ahead and explore!
Search this site
You can now search by typing in the box at the top of the sidebar on the left. This will search all the pages on this site only. It will not take you elsewhere on the internet. The links listed under Other Sites are clickable and will take you away from this site. The search results are not perfect, but hopefully this new feature will help you locate the books and other info you are trying to find.
Some new links have also been added to the Other Sites list in the sidebar.

THE BOY WHO HARNESSED THE WIND
William Kamkwamba was born in Malawi, a land withered by drought and hunger. But William had read about windmills, and he dreamed of building one that would bring to his small village electricity and running water. His neighbors called him misala—crazy—but William refused to let go of his dreams. With a small pile of science textbooks; some scrap metal, tractor parts, and bicycle halves; and an armory of curiosity and determination, he embarked on a daring plan to forge an unlikely contraption and small miracle that would change the lives around him.
This is a remarkable true story about human inventiveness and its power to overcome crippling adversity. It will inspire anyone who doubts the power of one individual's ability to change his community and better the lives of those around him.
